Design and Technology

Design and Technology

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values. Throughout their time at St. Nicholas Primary School children will develop their knowledge in food and nutrition, mechanical systems, textiles, electrical systems, structures and the digital world. They will also acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.

Studying Design and Technology enables our pupils to learn through mistakes, build resilience, take risks, develop complex thinking and see the creative process as a journey. This starts in the EYFS with an emphasis on experimentation and personal discovery.

As a school we have chosen to follow the Kapow Scheme of work for Design and Technology. This scheme has been chosen for its cyclical nature, where pupils revisit skills covered in greater complexity building on their prior knowledge.
