Art and Design

At St. Nicholas Primary School we value Art and Design because it contributes to the development of the whole child. It encourages self-expression and creativity and aims to build confidence as well as a sense of individual identity. Studying Art and Design enables our pupils to learn through mistakes, build resilience, take risks, develop complex thinking and see the creative process as a journey. This journey starts in the EYFS with an emphasis on experimentation and personal discovery.

Throughout St. Nicholas Primary we provide our children with inspiring, high-quality Art and Design education that encompasses influential artists, craft makers and designers from a variety of time periods and cultures.

As a school we have chosen to follow the Kapow Scheme of work for Art and Design. This scheme has been chosen for its cyclical nature, where pupils revisit skills covered in greater complexity building on their prior knowledge.
